Insulation Removal
Though insulation removal is not usually necessary, there are a few scenarios where it needs to at least be considered. The main instances when insulation removal should be considered are if the insulation has been exposed to fire, smoke, water, and pests, or if the home has more than the recommended amount of insulation.
- Fire and Smoke - No matter the size of the fire, your insulation could be filled with soot and smoke. The insulation will maintain the smell of smoke for years, and the only way to get rid of that smell is to have it removed.
- Water- If there has been a situation where your insulation could have absorbed a lot of water, it may not be effectively insulating your home anymore. Also, if unclean water is exposed to your insulation, you should get it removed to prevent the growth of mold and mildew in your attic or crawlspace.
- Pests- If there has been an insect or animal infestation in your attic or other parts of your home where there is insulation, you will likely want the insulation to be removed to stop mold and mildew from growing and to remove any viruses or bacteria that may be left behind.
- Overly Insulated- Some old homes may have insulation installed that is more than twice the recommended amount of insulation. Too much insulation can create moisture problems, which can cause mold stains to form on the ceilings and walls.
