Batting Insulation
If you are remodeling your home or building a new home, you will want to consider having batting insulation installed. This type of insulation is used to insulate floors and walls. It is also used in ceilings when blow-in insulation is unable to stick.
The most popular type of batting insulation is made from fiberglass. Fiberglass insulation is relatively inexpensive, energy efficient and long-lasting. Thus, when you have batting insulation made from fiberglass in your home, it will help your air conditioning and heating units not have to work so hard to keep your home at a comfortable temperature.
Batting insulation differs from blow-in insulation in that it comes in widths that will fit the standard spacing of floor joists, wall studs, or attic rafters. It is also available to be hand-cut if your home does not have standard spacing in those areas.
Batting insulation is available with or without facing. Some types of facing are kraft paper, foil-kraft paper, vinyl, and flame resistant. Facing is often added to act as an air and/or vapor barrier. Batting insulation that is faced is beneficial to have during the installation when fastening it. However, if you are putting batting insulation over existing insulation, it is better to have it unfaced.
